Day 29 - Who’s private lifestyle shocked you the most
i’m such a disaster finishing this meme but i’m determined to do it today!
i’m not much into private life of the stars and besides there aren’t so many things i find really shocking. i’ll choose Richard Burton and Liz Taylor. not because i find their private lifestyle shocking but merely for a story i read about their stay in Ava Gardner’s house in London (i think) when they were fighting so much they broke lots of china and damaged some paintings and other stuff. i thought that was a bit too much and kinda felt sorry for Ava. i bet she revised her guest policy after that :))

Day 28 - A movie you never expected yourself to enjoy
i’m not much into period dramas so i never expected to enjoy The Lion in Winter. but i did enjoy it enormously and it definitely has become one of my all-time favourites. this movie has one of the best and sharpest dialogues ever. the cast is magnificent. Peter O’Toole is great as Henry II. but it is first and foremost a Katharine Hepburn movie. to say she is fantastic in it is not enough. she is Eleanor. hers was one of the most deserved Oscars ever. great movie, watch it if you haven’t seen it.

Day 27 - Who’s death hit you the hardest and why
alas, most of my favourites died before they actually became my favourites. it makes me really sad to know that Deborah Kerr died only a couple of years ago (in 2007) and i had no idea of who she was at that time.. and among the latest deaths that hit me most i’ll go with Jean Simmons. she was a lovely lady and a wonderful actress. i was just beginning to discover and love her and then the news of her death came, it’s so sad ;(

Day 26 - Which unsolved scandal would you most like the answer to
i’m a couple of days behind in the meme so it’s time to be catching up with it. i don’t really have an unsolved Hollywood mystery/scandal i’d like an answer to. at least i can’t think of any now except for why on earth Mickey Rooney was so popular the one not directly related to Hollywood: Dorothy Kilgallen’s death.

Day 25 - Which character from a film do you fantasize about being
good question. depends on a day actually. as for today i’d choose Linda Seton, Katharine Hepburn’s character in Holiday. love her spirit! “someone stop me! oh someone, please, just try and stop me!”(c) but oh well, let’s face it, almost any character that gets a Cary Grant in the end will do just fine :D

Day 23 - A film you think is underrated
since The Americanization of Emily and Tea and Sympathy have already been mentioned by @frivolouswhim and @nicolesgrace and i myself already mentioned The Innocents in this meme (all 3 are great and unfortunately underrated movies) i’ll pick another movie i adore that is, alas, terribly underrated. the movie is Darling Lili starring gorgeous Julie Andrews and big&handsome Rock Hudson. this movie is all sorts of crazy and fun. Julie never looked and sounded better. neither was she as hilarious in any of her movies. hell yes, jealous Jools is hysterical, poor Rock. add the fantastic score by the great Henri Mancini and you’ll never get why the heck this movie flopped. well, anyway i don’t get it.

Day 22 - If you could go back in time and trade places with an Old Hollywood star, who would it be
well, frankly i´ve never wanted to be a star and if i could go back in time i´d rather be a behind-the-scenes person (part of the crew or something like that) just to be able to see how all those stars worked and created something that was going to live and last and immortalize them, something that is now a great part of movie history. but i guess that´s not the way to answer today´s question )
the first “star” that popped into my mind was.. Baby, the leopard from Bringing Up Baby :))) wouldn´t it be cool to be in a movie with Kate and Cary and have them both sing to you? oh i´d love that! :)))
anyway, to be serious, i´d probably pick the star i feel most affinity with and that´s for sure is Deborah Kerr. i think it´s partly because of the fact that we are both Libras that i feel so in tune with her. i love that she was a very private person, very professional, equally devoted to her work and to her family, that she generated a happy atmosphere around her, had a wonderful sense of humour. i love her gentle beauty and her voice. i respect her a whole lot for her choice to retire from the movie industry rather than make films that were below her standards. i totally share her love for Spain and Switzerland. add to all that her incredible versatility as an actress and all those great leading men (Cary Grant (!), Spencer Tracy, Robert Mitchum, Robert Taylor, etc.) and great directors (John Huston, Michael Powell, Elia Kazan, George Cukor, Jack Clayton, etc.) she worked with.. so yes, if i had to trade places with any star i definitely would choose Deborah.

i confess i haven´t seen too many silent films (hope to catch up on them at some point). i definitely love Garbo, Gloria Swanson and Buster Keaton. but my favourite is, of course, the great Charlie Chaplin. fantastic actor, director and composer. love you, Charlot!

Day 18 - Actor or Actress who should have won an Oscar
there have been lots of actors unfairly overlooked by the Academy. i´ve picked 3 (out of many) performances that in my opinion should´ve been awarded:
Angela Lansbury definitely should´ve won Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her fantastic portrayal of the evil Mrs. Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate;
Deborah Kerr could have and should have won Best Actress Oscar for any of her 6 nominated roles but mostly she deserved that Oscar for the role she wasn´t even nominated for, i´m talking of course about her magnificent performance as Miss Giddens in The Innocents;
Katharine Hepburn can hardly be called overlooked by the Academy holding the record for most Best Actress wins with her 4 Oscars. however as good as she was in her first Oscar-winning role in The Morning Glory i think she gave a much better performance 2 years after that in Alice Adams. so if i could choose i would´ve given her an Oscar for that one instead.

Day 17 - Favorite line from a film
i don´t think i have just one favourite, there are so many wonderful lines. and instead of going mad choosing i´ll go with the one i´ve been remembering quite a few times over the last couple of days. it´s actually a bit of cheating because it´s initially a quote from Tennessee Williams´play but as it made it to the movie i think i can use it as a film line too.

Nothing human disgusts me, Mr. Shannon, unless it’s unkind or violent.

Day 16- Favorite director
there is a number of directors i love and admire. but when it comes to choosing a favourite the answer is so obvious than even my Libra hesitant self has no trouble instantly saying the name of the one and only Alfred Hitchcock. the words aren’t enough to express how much i love this man so i won’t even try. his was a work of a genius, style of a master. all of his movies are worth watching, even the minor ones. and his masterpieces are to be re-watched and thoroughly enjoyed infinite number of times.
